Interpretation

The capitalized terms used in this Allergy Policy have meanings defined under the following conditions and apply regardless of singular or plural usage.

Definitions

Allergen:
Any substance that causes an allergic reaction (e.g., shellfish, fish, dairy, nuts, gluten).
Cross-Contact:
Unintentional transfer of allergens via shared surfaces, equipment, or utensils.
Customer ("You"):
Any individual who visits or orders from Cajun Kitchen.
Service:
Our restaurant operations, including dine-in, takeout, delivery, and food preparation processes.
Shared Equipment:
Cooking or food-prep tools (pots, utensils, fryers, cutting boards) used for different ingredients and menu items.

1. Allergen Advisory – Seafood Focus

We specialize in Cajun-style seafood boils, including crawfish, crab, shrimp, and other shellfish and fish. Due to this:

  • All dishes are prepared in a kitchen where shellfish and fish are regularly stored, handled, and cooked.
  • Complete allergen exclusion (especially seafood) cannot be guaranteed because of cross-contact risks.

Important Warning: If you have a severe allergy to shellfish or fish, you should not consume any menu item at our establishment.

2. Cross‑Contact and Shared Kitchen Practices

We operate a shared kitchen environment, where all ingredients pass through common areas and equipment:

  • There are no separate cooking areas or utensils for allergen-free preparation.
  • Shared resources include boil pots, fryers, cutting boards, utensils, surfaces, and more.
  • Despite enhanced cleaning protocols, cross-contact remains possible.

3. Other Common Food Allergens

In addition to seafood, our menu may contain or come into contact with common allergens, such as:

  • Dairy (e.g., butter, cream sauces)
  • Eggs (e.g., sauces, batters)
  • Gluten (e.g., breading, seasoning blends)
  • Peanuts & Tree Nuts (e.g., in sauces or dessert items)
  • Soy (e.g., in marinades or seasonings)
  • Sesame (e.g., in garnishes or oils)

We provide ingredient lists upon request, but cannot ensure that any dish is completely allergen-free.

4. Customer Responsibilities and Acknowledgments

Before ordering, Customers should:

  • Disclose all known allergies clearly to our staff.
  • Understand that we cannot guarantee allergen-free meals, due to shared prep space.
  • Assess personal allergy risk and make decisions accordingly.

By choosing to dine with us, you indicate that you:

  • Accept the inherent risks associated with allergens and cross-contact.
  • Release Cajun Kitchen from liability regarding allergic reactions.

5. Emergency Preparedness

We are committed to Guest safety but are not medical professionals, and we:

  • Do not stock epinephrine (EpiPens) or any emergency medications.
  • Encourage Customers with known severe allergies to carry their own medical treatment.

In case of reaction, follow these steps:

  1. Call 911 immediately.
  2. Our staff will offer assistance while awaiting emergency responders.

6. Compliance with Missouri Food Safety Regulations

We adhere to the standards and requirements outlined by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services (DHSS) concerning:

  • Food safety protocols
  • Employee hygiene and training
  • Proper storage, labeling, and handling practices

However, no regulation or certification guarantees a fully allergen-free facility.
